Veer Kunwar Singh University (VKSU) in Ara, Bihar, celebrated a significant academic milestone with its seventh convocation ceremony held on Wednesday at the institution's new campus located at Zero Mile. The event was graced by Governor-cum-chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan as the chief guest, who presided over the proceedings and distributed honors to outstanding students.
Gold Medals and Degrees Conferred
During the ceremony, Governor Khan awarded gold medals to 44 top-performing postgraduate students from various disciplines, highlighting academic excellence across the university. Notably, VKSU vice-chancellor Shailendra Kumar Chaturvedi announced that among these 44 gold medallists, an impressive 29 were girl students, showcasing gender parity in academic achievements.
The governor also conferred PhD degrees upon 113 research scholars from VKSU, recognizing their contributions to advanced research. Additionally, postgraduate degrees were awarded to 23 students from the academic sessions 2022-24 and 2023-25, with 12 of these recipients being female students.
Ceremonial Honors and Addresses
Prior to the academic proceedings, Governor Khan was accorded a traditional guard of honor and paid tribute to freedom fighter Veer Kunwar Singh by garlanding his statue. A shobha yatra (procession) was also organized as part of the convocation celebrations, adding cultural significance to the event.
Governor's Emphasis on Values
In his address to the gathering, Governor Khan commended the students for their hard work and consistent efforts that earned them gold medals and prestigious degrees. He emphasized that alongside academic pursuits, students should imbibe Indian culture and moral values, which play a vital role in nation-building.
"Indian culture teaches us to see God in every soul, and students can become messengers of world peace," the governor stated, encouraging the graduates to carry forward these principles in their future endeavors.
University Progress and Initiatives
Vice-chancellor Shailendra Kumar Chaturvedi highlighted the university's administrative improvements during his address. He noted that academic sessions at VKSU have become regular, and examinations are being conducted without delays, ensuring smooth academic operations.
The VC also outlined ongoing initiatives, stating, "Special focus is being given to research activities, and more job-oriented courses are being introduced. Promotions of both teachers and employees are being carried out without dispute or delay," reflecting the institution's commitment to growth and development.
Distinguished Guests in Attendance
The convocation ceremony witnessed the presence of several notable dignitaries, including Sandesh MLA Radha Charan Shah alias Seth Ji, Agiaon MLA Mahesh Paswan, Buxar MLA Anand Mishra, Dinara MLA Alok Kumar Singh, Dumraon MLA Rahul Kumar Singh, and MLC Jeevan Kumar. VKSU registrar Ram Krishna Thakur and other guests also attended the event, underscoring its importance in the regional academic calendar.
