Violence erupted on the campus of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak on Tuesday, as rival student groups engaged in a series of brutal clashes. The situation escalated dramatically when a black SUV was driven into a crowd, hitting two youths. A disturbing video of the incident surfaced on Wednesday, sparking widespread concern.
Sequence of Events: From Altercation to Vehicle Assault
The roots of the violence trace back to an altercation outside the boys' hostel on Tuesday. According to available information, a youth identified as Vicky had a verbal dispute with some other students. This argument quickly turned physical, with both sides allegedly using sticks.
The conflict did not end there. It reportedly flared up again near the university's law department, where Vicky and his associates were allegedly attacked once more by the opposing group. After a brief lull, the groups confronted each other for a third time, this time outside the university library.
It was during this phase that the situation took a dangerous turn. The other group, allegedly arriving in a "bulletproof SUV", is accused of deliberately driving the vehicle into Vicky's group. In the widely circulated video, one youth is seen being flung a distance upon impact, while another appears to go under the vehicle.
Video Evidence and Retaliatory Attack
The graphic video evidence shows the chaotic moments following the collision. After the SUV rams into the youths, the occupants attempt to drive away. However, members of the attacked group respond by pelting bricks and stones at the vehicle. They are also seen striking the black SUV with sticks in a fit of rage.
Despite the retaliatory assault, the occupants of the SUV managed to flee the spot. The entire incident has sent shockwaves through the university community and raised serious questions about campus security.
Historical Enmity and Lack of Formal Complaint
Sources indicate that this is not an isolated incident of conflict. The current violence is being viewed in the context of a long-standing enmity between the groups involved. It is alleged that Vicky was also shot at approximately a year ago during a previous clash between the same factions.
A significant aspect of this case is that no formal complaint has been lodged with the Rohtak police as of now. The authorities are likely aware of the incident through the viral video and local sources, but the absence of an official First Information Report (FIR) complicates immediate legal action.
The repeated clashes at different locations within the MDU campus highlight a severe breakdown of order and point to deep-seated rivalries among student groups. The use of a vehicle as a weapon marks a particularly alarming escalation in campus violence, demanding urgent attention from university administration and law enforcement.
