Mangaluru's RGUHS Regional Office in Bondel Set for Dec 2026 Completion
RGUHS Mangaluru Regional Office to be Ready by Dec 2026

Mangaluru is poised to receive a significant boost to its higher education and healthcare administration infrastructure with the upcoming regional office of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). According to a recent announcement by the state government, the construction in Bondel is progressing steadily and is now scheduled for completion by the end of December 2026.

Project Timeline and Construction Progress

Dr. Sharanaprakash Rudrappa Patil, the Minister for Medical Education and Skills Development, provided the updated timeline during the ongoing winter session of the legislature at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. The minister was responding to a specific query raised by MLC Ivan D'Souza, who sought an update on the status of the long-awaited regional office for the coastal region.

Minister Patil confirmed that the construction work officially commenced on January 17 of this year. While an earlier deadline of September 2026 was projected, the current pace of work supports a revised completion date of December 2026. The minister emphasized that significant progress has already been achieved at the site.

Current Status of the Building Work

The physical construction has advanced through crucial stages. All concrete work related to the building's basement and ground floor has been successfully finished. Presently, the construction crew and engineers are focused on erecting the structure for the first floor, marking a key phase in the vertical development of the facility.

The project's advancement indicates a strong commitment from the state authorities to see it through to its conclusion, ensuring it meets the necessary standards for a university administrative hub.

Significance for the Region's Educational Landscape

A senior official from RGUHS highlighted the transformative potential of the new regional office. Once the construction and subsequent interior works are finalized, the office will begin its operations, serving as a new nodal center for educational administration in the region.

The establishment of this office is expected to drastically improve accessibility for students, affiliated colleges, and medical professionals across the coastal districts of Karnataka. It will decentralize administrative functions, bringing crucial services related to health science education closer to the stakeholders, thereby reducing the need for travel to the main campus in Bengaluru for routine academic and administrative work.

This development aligns with broader goals of enhancing educational infrastructure and supporting the growing ecosystem of medical, dental, pharmacy, and nursing institutions in and around Mangaluru. The Bondel office will streamline processes related to examinations, affiliations, and student support, fostering a more efficient and responsive academic environment for the health sciences sector in the region.
