The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) celebrated a significant milestone as it held its annual convocation ceremony in the national capital. The event, graced by the Hon'ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest, marked the formal graduation of students stepping into the dynamic footwear and leather industry.
A Presidential Address Focused on Innovation and Self-Reliance
In her keynote address at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre on Janpath, President Droupadi Murmu commended the institute on completing 40 years of service to the nation. She noted that these four decades coincided with some of the most rapid technological and global changes in history.
The President emphasized that footwear design is far more than a fashion pursuit. "It is a confluence of technology, innovation, skill, and global competitiveness," she stated. She urged the graduating class to carry forward the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and actively contribute to the national vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Highlighting India's position as a major global footwear exporter, President Murmu called for further expansion and innovation within the sector to boost export numbers. She pointed out that this growth is creating a surge in new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for skilled graduates.
Shifting Trends and Future Potential
While acknowledging the significant historical contribution of India's traditional leather footwear sector, the President directed attention to high-growth areas. She identified sports footwear and non-leather footwear as segments with immense potential, encouraging the youth to focus their talents and innovations in these fields.
The ceremony was also attended by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Jitin Prasada, adding considerable prestige to the occasion.
Institute Leadership Celebrates Student Achievement
Sarita Duhan, the Executive Director of the FDDI Rohtak Campus, extended her warm congratulations to the graduates. She expressed confidence that the students, equipped as future designers, technologists, managers, and entrepreneurs, would set new industry benchmarks.
"Today symbolizes our students' hard work, dedication, and achievements," Duhan said. She added that the holistic education and state-of-the-art training provided at FDDI are designed not only to create excellent professionals but also responsible citizens ready to contribute to nation-building.
The convocation proceedings included the formal conferral of degrees, recognition of meritorious students, and awards for outstanding performance across various academic programs. The event was well-attended by senior FDDI officers, faculty members, proud parents, and the graduating students themselves. Vivek Sharma, the Managing Director of FDDI, concluded the ceremony by thanking the distinguished guests for their presence.
