PAU's New Women's Gym Aims for Holistic Student Development

In a significant move to promote holistic student development, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana has officially launched the women's section of its newly established gymnasium. This dedicated facility aims to seamlessly integrate physical wellbeing into the demanding academic lives of its students.

A Modern Facility for Fitness and Focus

Housed within the university's Gymnasium Building, the new facility was made possible through funding from the Punjab government. It features two separate sections for men and women, with the women's wing now fully operational. The gym is equipped with a total of 64 advanced machines, offering students and staff a comprehensive range of structured fitness options.

The layout is thoughtfully designed with 36 distinct workout stations catering to diverse fitness objectives. This includes eight machines dedicated to improving cardiovascular endurance, 13 for building upper body strength, and nine for enhancing lower body strength. Furthermore, the facility houses four stations for core and back training, along with two specifically for stretching and flexibility exercises. University officials stated that this balanced setup is intended to promote well-rounded routines that build stamina, strength, mobility, and core stability.

Launch Session Emphasizes Safe and Consistent Training

The inaugural session saw an enthusiastic turnout, with approximately 40 female students participating under the guidance of trainer Sahajpreet Kaur. The session doubled as an orientation, where participants were educated on the safe operation of the equipment and the importance of setting realistic fitness goals. Trainer Kaur provided guidance on building sustainable workout plans and maintaining consistency for long-term benefits.

Addressing the importance of this initiative, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal encouraged students to adopt fitness as a steady habit. He emphasized pairing regular exercise with mindful nutrition, noting that physical activity sharpens mental focus, stabilizes mood, and is a crucial tool for managing academic stress.

University Leadership Hails Investment in Student Welfare

Registrar Dr. Rishi Pal Singh described the gymnasium as a major investment in student welfare, reflecting the state's commitment to the all-round development of young minds. The Director of Students' Welfare, Dr. Nirmal Jaura, highlighted that the modern machinery removes guesswork from training, thereby boosting user confidence and effectiveness.

Dr. Kiran Bains, Dean of the College of Community Science, added that incorporating physical activity into daily routines strengthens resilience and mental clarity, which are vital for navigating challenging academic schedules.

University officials confirmed that the men's section of the gymnasium will commence operations shortly, pending the appointment of a dedicated trainer. This step will ensure equal access to modern fitness resources for all students at PAU, marking a new chapter in promoting a culture of health and wellness on campus.
