In a significant boost for education and connectivity in Assam, Dibrugarh is set to get a new 1-kilometer road that will directly link the city with Dibrugarh University, dramatically reducing travel distance for students and faculty.
Site Inspection Paves Way for Construction
Power Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, accompanied by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), conducted a crucial site inspection on Tuesday. The visit to the proposed route through the Jalan South Tea Estate in the Milan Nagar area was to assess the terrain and finalize plans before construction begins.
During the inspection, Minister Phukan emphasized the project's impact, stating it will immensely benefit the university's students. He highlighted that the road will offer a more convenient and direct daily route, saving both time and travel expenses for the academic community.
Transforming a Long-Standing Commute Challenge
Currently, students traveling from Dibrugarh city to the university campus must take a circuitous 8-kilometer route via Dibrugarh-Amolapatty Chariali-NH-37. This has been a persistent concern, adding significant time and cost to daily journeys for those living in the city and nearby areas.
The new road promises to be a game-changer. Once operational, it will cut the travel distance by nearly 7 kilometers, providing a straight-shot connection through the scenic tea garden. PWD officials have completed a detailed survey and are designing the road to handle regular traffic while ensuring minimal environmental impact on the tea estate.
Project Ready for Takeoff
All procedural hurdles have been cleared to kickstart the project. Officials confirmed that the land acquisition process is already complete, with the necessary area secured from the tea estate management. This clears the path for the immediate commencement of construction work.
The initiative addresses a long-standing demand from the student community for better university connectivity. Dibrugarh University, a premier educational hub in Upper Assam that attracts hundreds of students annually from across the region and abroad, is poised to become much more accessible.
With the site inspection concluded and land secured, the stage is now set for construction to begin, bringing much-awaited relief to thousands who rely on this route for their education.
