Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Lays Foundation Stone for Rs 15 Crore College in Ajnala Border Belt
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a new Government Degree College in the border village of Bikraur near Ajnala on Monday. He personally laid the foundation stone for this significant educational project.
Addressing Youth Migration Through Education
The Chief Minister emphasized that this college represents a crucial step in addressing youth migration from border areas. "This institution will ensure that young people from the border region can pursue higher education close to their homes," Mann declared during the ceremony.
He explained that previous governments had neglected this challenge for decades. Their failure forced generations of Punjab's youth to seek opportunities abroad. The new college aims to reverse this trend by providing quality education locally.
College Details and Expected Impact
The government will spend approximately Rs 15 crore to construct the college on more than 15 acres of land. Local residents and the Bikraur panchayat generously donated this land for the project.
Youth from around 50 nearby villages will benefit directly from this institution. Officials expect over 2,000 students to enroll in the coming years. The college will offer diverse courses including:
- Arts, Science, and Commerce programs
- Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
- Digital Skills training for modern employment

Chief Minister Mann used the occasion to criticize opposition parties. He claimed infighting has reached its peak among these groups because they lack concrete agendas for public welfare.
"The opposition has no vision for Punjab's future," Mann asserted. "They merely wait for opportunities to exploit the state's resources. Their ambitions will remain unfulfilled because Punjab's people recognize their dubious character."
He specifically accused the Congress, Akali Dal, and BJP of collectively looting Punjab for decades. According to Mann, these parties hollowed out institutions and created conditions that pushed youth toward migration.
In contrast, the Chief Minister highlighted his government's achievements. He noted that the AAP administration has provided regular employment to more than 63,000 young people based purely on merit. The new college in Bikraur continues this commitment to rebuilding what Mann calls "Rangla Punjab" through education and opportunity.
Honoring Local Heritage
The institution will carry the name of revered scholar Baba Ghamchuk Ji. This naming decision honors local cultural heritage while connecting education to community values.
