Magadh University Marks 65th Foundation Day with High-Level Inauguration
Gaya: The 65th foundation day of Magadh University (MU) was inaugurated on Sunday in a ceremony attended by Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar. The event highlighted significant commitments toward the university's development and its aspirations to regain historical prominence.
Ministerial Promises for Infrastructure and Support
Addressing the inaugural session, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi made concrete assurances for MU's growth. "I promise to discuss with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the construction of an auditorium," Manjhi stated. "Furthermore, whatever demands are presented for the development of Magadh University, I will actively take them up. I pray that the university regains its past glory and achieves world-renowned status."
In a notable proposal, Manjhi also suggested installing a statue of Satyendra Narayan Singh, the abbot of Bodh Gaya Math, recognizing his pivotal role in providing land from the Math for the establishment of Magadh University.
Bihar's Educational Budget and Aspirations
Special guest and Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar emphasized the state government's substantial investment in education. "Prioritizing education, the Bihar government has allocated approximately sixty thousand crores, which marks the highest education budget in Bihar's history to date," Kumar announced.
He expressed a visionary goal for MU: "I wish for Magadh University to achieve a status similar to Nalanda University, where students from across the globe once flocked to acquire knowledge." This statement underscores the ambition to restore Bihar's historical legacy as an educational hub.
University Achievements and Unique Offerings
Magadh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shashi Pratap Shahi detailed the institution's recent accomplishments during his tenure. "Over the past three years, we have conducted more than 155 examinations for both conventional and professional courses, effectively regularizing the academic session," Shahi reported.
He highlighted several distinctive achievements:
- MU has become only the seventh university in India to receive permission from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey followed by excavation at Dubba in the Gurua block of Gaya district.
- It stands as the sole university in Bihar currently offering courses in artificial intelligence (AI), positioning it at the forefront of technological education in the state.
These milestones reflect MU's ongoing efforts to enhance academic rigor and expand its research and educational capabilities.
The foundation day event served as a platform for reaffirming support from political leaders and showcasing the university's progress, setting a positive trajectory for its future development and potential restoration as a premier educational institution.
