Lucknow University Overhauls Exam System with Re-evaluation and Anti-Cheating Rules
In a significant move to enhance academic integrity, the examination committee of Lucknow University has approved major reforms, including allowing re-evaluation of entrance exam answer sheets and imposing stricter penalties for cheating. These decisions, made on Friday, aim to foster transparency and fairness in the assessment process.
Re-evaluation Process for Admission Seekers
Applicants seeking admission to various courses at Lucknow University can now request re-evaluation of their entrance exam answer sheets. For this service, a fee of Rs 300 must be paid. A university official emphasized that this step is designed to ensure accuracy and transparency in assessment, providing students with an avenue to address potential grading errors.
Enhanced Measures Against Unfair Means
The committee has approved an ordinance that amends rules related to the use of unfair means during examinations. Under the new regulations, carrying mobile phones, wireless devices, Bluetooth-enabled equipment, electronic gadgets, or any unauthorized instruments will be treated as cheating. Students found violating these rules will face serious consequences, including being booked for cheating.
To enforce these measures, special flying squads will conduct surprise inspections at exam centers, with approval from the vice-chancellor. A strict penalty system has been introduced, ranging from the cancellation of individual papers to expulsion and FIR registration for severe violations. Cases will be reviewed by subject experts, and students have the right to appeal to an appellate committee.
Collective Cheating and Surveillance Protocols
In cases of collective cheating at an exam center, the university may cancel the entire exam and blacklist the center. Additionally, all practical exams will be conducted under CCTV surveillance, with recordings retained for three months to ensure accountability and deter misconduct.
Quality Assurance in Assessment
To maintain high standards in evaluation, each paper will be assessed by a main examiner and a secondary examiner as needed. Before results are published, 5% of answer sheets will be randomly selected for rechecking. Answer keys will also be provided to students, promoting clarity in the grading process.
Digital Payments for Examiners
In a bid to improve efficiency and transparency, examiner payments will now be made online through a newly developed module. This digital shift is expected to streamline financial transactions and reduce delays, contributing to a more robust examination system.
These comprehensive reforms reflect Lucknow University's commitment to upholding academic standards and ensuring a fair environment for all students during admissions and examinations.
