KGMU to start first FNB in Trauma Anaesthesiology in UP

In a significant development for medical education in Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow's prestigious King George's Medical University (KGMU) has secured a crucial government approval to introduce a highly specialised training programme. The university has received an essentiality certificate from the Uttar Pradesh government, paving the way for it to become the first institution in the state to offer a Fellow of National Board (FNB) course in Trauma Anaesthesiology and Critical Care.

What is the FNB Programme in Trauma Care?

This FNB programme represents a post-MBBS super-specialty training initiative designed to equip doctors with advanced, focused skills in specific functional areas of medicine. The Trauma Anaesthesiology and Critical Care course is meticulously structured to prepare medical professionals for the high-pressure task of managing critically injured patients and those suffering from severe illnesses. It addresses a vital need for specialists who can handle complex trauma cases effectively.

Course Details and Infrastructure Readiness

The new super-specialty course is set to be a two-year programme. Initially, it will commence with two seats, adhering strictly to the norms and guidelines laid down by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Elaborating on the preparations, KGMU spokesperson Professor KK Singh highlighted the existing robust infrastructure that will support this advanced training. "The unit has a dedicated 20-bed facility, adequate clinical material and qualified faculty," stated Prof. Singh. This ensures that students will gain hands-on experience in a well-equipped environment.

Future Plans and Broader Impact

The introduction of this FNB course is just the beginning of KGMU's expansion in this critical medical domain. Revealing future ambitions, Prof. Singh added that preparations are already underway to start an even more advanced Doctorate of Medicine (DM) course in the same specialty of Trauma Anaesthesiology and Critical Care.

This move by KGMU is expected to significantly enhance the availability of super-specialist doctors in trauma care within Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring regions. It marks a pivotal step in strengthening the state's advanced healthcare education framework and its capacity to deal with critical emergencies.
