IIT Delhi Opens Admissions for Robotics Executive Programme: 5-Month Course for Professionals
IIT Delhi Opens Admissions for Robotics Executive Programme

The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has officially announced the commencement of admissions for the third batch of its highly sought-after Executive Programme in Robotics. This initiative is strategically designed to cultivate industry-ready talent, addressing the seismic shifts driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent automation across global manufacturing and operational value chains.

Programme Structure: Bridging Theory with Hands-On Practice

Tailored specifically for working professionals, this intensive five-month programme aims to deliver advanced technical knowledge and managerial prowess in the field of robotics. The curriculum is enriched with insights from leading academic researchers and seasoned industry experts from both India and the United States.

The programme's core philosophy is to merge robotics engineering with AI-driven sensing, mechatronics, and practical prototyping. This approach equips participants for deployment-focused roles in various technology-driven sectors. The comprehensive training covers programming languages specific to robotic applications, intricate system design, control of robotic networks, and the end-to-end development of robotic devices, ensuring a firm grasp of both mechanical and electronic fundamentals.

A key focus area is developing capability in robotic vision, teaching participants how to apply visual sensors to solve real-world industrial problems. The syllabus is organized into six detailed modules:

  • Robotics and Automation
  • Sensing and Perception
  • Actuators and Motion
  • Modelling, AI, and Machine Learning
  • Embedded Control and Mechatronics
  • Applications and Future Directions

Learning is reinforced through practical tutorials in CAD design, 3D printing, Arduino programming, applying AI and ML in robotics, DIY robotics projects, and the Robot Operating System (ROS).

Soaring Market Demand and India's Rising Stature

The launch of this programme is timely, given the explosive growth forecast for the global robotics industry. Citing a report from ABI Research, IIT Delhi highlighted that the worldwide robot population is expected to surge to nearly 13 million units by 2030. The market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14%, reaching a valuation of US$111 billion, with humanoid robots identified as the fastest-growing segment.

India's own adoption of robotics is accelerating at a remarkable pace. In 2024, the country recorded 9,100 new robot installations, marking a 7% year-on-year increase. The automotive sector led this charge, accounting for 45% of all installations. This growth has propelled India to the sixth position globally in annual robot installations, now ranking ahead of industrial powerhouse Germany.

Expert-Led Delivery and Immersive Learning Format

"Robotics now sits at the intersection of AI, sensing and advanced manufacturing," said Prof. Arnab Chanda, Programme Coordinator and Associate Professor at IIT Delhi. He emphasized that the programme is crafted to integrate research-led teaching with practitioner insight, fostering the responsible deployment of intelligent automation systems.

The programme will be delivered through live, interactive direct-to-device online sessions. These will include expert lectures, tutorials, hands-on tool training, and collaborative project work. To complement the virtual learning, participants will attend a one-day campus immersion session at IIT Delhi. The programme culminates in a capstone project where each participant will be tasked with developing a functional robot, applying the skills acquired throughout the course.

This executive programme represents a critical step in building a skilled workforce ready to lead and innovate in India's rapidly modernizing industrial landscape, powered by robotics and intelligent systems.
