Gujarat University (GU) has officially launched its second round of admissions for the current academic year, acting on the University Grants Commission's (UGC) new policy of biannual intakes. This move provides a fresh opportunity for students who missed the first cycle to secure a place in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Revised Schedule and Extended Deadlines
In a significant update for applicants, the university has pushed back key deadlines. The registration window on the GCAS portal, which was originally set to close on December 29, will now remain open until January 4. This extension is part of a broader revised schedule aimed at accommodating more candidates.
The timeline for document verification has also been relaxed, moving from December 31 to January 6. Consequently, the first round of seat allotment, initially planned for January 1-3, will now occur on January 7 and 8. Students who receive seats in this round must confirm their admission between January 9 and 12.
Seat Availability and Direct Second-Semester Entry
This second-phase admission drive is substantial, covering a total of 6,786 vacant seats across a wide range of Arts, Commerce, and Science courses. The admissions are being conducted under the UGC's biannual admission system, implemented from the 2024-25 academic year.
A key feature of this phase is that successful candidates will gain direct entry into the second semester. Their academic journey will begin with Semester 2, after which they will complete the coursework for Semester 1. This unique structure is designed for students who could not secure admission during the regular first-semester intake.
Two Rounds of Allotment and Future Steps
The university has outlined a clear process for this admission phase. Following the first allotment round in early January, a second round will commence. Students wishing to participate in this second round must give their consent between January 9 and 11.
The allotment for the second round is scheduled for January 13, with selected candidates required to confirm their admissions between January 16 and 17. This two-round system is expected to maximize the filling of vacant seats identified by GU after it collected data from its affiliated colleges.
The initiation of this process followed the UGC directive, with GU opening registrations on the GCAS portal starting December 20. The university anticipates that the extended deadlines and the new biannual admission policy will significantly benefit a larger number of aspiring students in the region.
