Piyush Goyal Urges Shedding Colonial Mindset in Education at Amity Convocation
Goyal: Colonial mindset obstacle to India's progress

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal delivered a powerful address at the annual convocation of Amity University in Noida on Saturday, identifying the colonial mindset in education as a major barrier to India's advancement. He called for a renewed sense of pride in the nation's rich heritage and value systems.

A Call to Overcome Colonial Legacy

Piyush Goyal stated that shedding the colonial mindset is essential for India's progress. He emphasized that the country must take pride in its own rich heritage and robust family value system. The minister highlighted India's renowned "unity in diversity" as a core strength that must be respected. He concluded this point by urging everyone to fulfill their duties towards the nation.

His remarks aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on the same day at the HT Leadership Summit, where the PM referred to 2035 as the target year to overcome the "mindset of slavery" from the colonial era. This timeline marks the 200th anniversary of Macaulay's education policy, a historical reference point for the discourse.

Celebrating Achievements and National Contribution

Addressing the graduating batch of nearly 29,000 students, which included both online and on-campus learners, Goyal congratulated them on their success. He asserted that the true focus of the convocation ceremony was the achievements of the students and awardees. The minister praised the university's role in encouraging talented minds to return to India, nurturing their abilities, and providing a platform that recognizes their potential.

Goyal highlighted the wide range of opportunities available to students and expressed satisfaction that half of the student population comprises young women. He commended the university's strong innovation culture, noting that students hold over 450 patents. He also acknowledged the contribution of 50 faculty members who are Ramalingam Swami Fellows and have returned to serve the nation.

The Path to Viksit Bharat

The Minister described the graduating students as a crucial part of India's journey to become a developed nation by 2047. He stated that the next 25 years will be the defining era for Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Goyal urged the graduates to take their chosen fields to the next level, push boundaries, and make meaningful contributions to national progress.

He praised the sacrifices and dedication of teachers and parents in shaping the students. Goyal encouraged the new alumni to stay connected with their alma mater and to appreciate their mentors. As they step into the real world, he reminded them that challenges are inevitable but expressed confidence that the education and values imparted by Amity University have equipped them to face obstacles with strength and focus.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President of the Amity Education Group, also spoke at the event. He emphasized the group's commitment to making every student a success story by providing high-quality education and instilling strong values and "sanskars" that help them stand out.
