Goa University Launches PhD Admissions for 2025-26 Academic Year
Goa University has officially commenced the admission process for its PhD programmes for the 2025-26 session. These programmes are available both on the main campus and at affiliated institutes, including prestigious organizations such as the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO). This initiative aims to foster advanced research and academic excellence in various fields.
Application Timeline and Key Dates
Prospective candidates are required to submit their applications online, with the deadline set for April 21, 2025. Following the application period, interviews will be conducted from April 27 to May 4, 2025. The final list of selected candidates will be declared on May 5, 2025, as per the official notification released by Goa University.
Eligibility Criteria for PhD Admissions
Admission to the PhD programmes for the April 2026 session is open to candidates who meet specific eligibility requirements. The primary criteria include:
- National-Level Test Qualifiers: Candidates who have qualified for fellowships or scholarships through exams such as UGC-NET, UGC-CSIR NET, GATE, CEED, or other similar national-level tests notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are eligible. Admission for this category will be based solely on an interview.
- NET/SET Lectureship Qualifiers: Candidates who have qualified NET/SET for lectureship but do not fall under the fellowship category will also be considered. Their admission will involve an interview with a weightage of 70% for the NET/SET score and 30% for the interview performance.
- Goa University PhD Entrance Test (PET): All other students seeking admission must have appeared for the Goa University PhD Entrance Test (PET). Those who qualify will be eligible to attend the interview, with a weightage of 70% for the entrance test score and 30% for the interview.
Important Note: Candidates who have completed an MPhil degree through distance mode are not eligible for admission, as specified by Goa University.
Part-Time PhD Programmes and Residency Requirements
Goa University also permits part-time PhD programmes, subject to certain conditions. Applicants must furnish a letter from their employer if they are currently working, ensuring they can balance professional commitments with academic research.
Additionally, the university mandates that every candidate must reside within the territorial jurisdiction of Goa University during the first three years of their research period. This requirement is designed to facilitate close supervision and active participation in university activities, enhancing the overall research experience.
