University of Delhi Celebrates 102nd Convocation with Over 1.2 Lakh Graduates
In a landmark ceremony held on Saturday, the University of Delhi (DU) awarded degrees to more than 1.2 lakh students, marking a significant milestone in its academic history. The event was graced by Vice President of India and DU Chancellor C.P. Radhakrishnan, who served as the chief guest and digitally released the degrees to the graduating class.
Historic Graduation for First FYUP Batch and Special Centenary Provision
The convocation was particularly notable as it included the first batch of students graduating from the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), a reform initiative introduced by the university. Additionally, in a special gesture to commemorate DU's centenary year, 20 former students were given a unique opportunity to complete their courses under a newly introduced provision, allowing them to finally receive their degrees after previous interruptions.
Breakdown of Degree Conferrals and Academic Honors
The university conferred degrees on a total of 1,09,003 undergraduate students and 11,362 postgraduate students. Among the undergraduate recipients were 43 FYUP graduates, with candidates drawn from regular courses, the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB), and the School of Open Learning. Furthermore, 734 scholars were awarded PhD degrees, highlighting DU's commitment to advanced research and academic excellence. In recognition of outstanding achievements, 132 medals and prizes were presented to top-performing students across various disciplines.
Inspiring Addresses from University Leadership
During the ceremony, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing that universities are defined not merely by their physical infrastructure but by the character and values they instill in their students. He remarked that convocation represents "not an ending, but a new beginning," encouraging graduates to embark on their future endeavors with confidence and purpose.
DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh also addressed the gathering, urging the new graduates to take responsibility for the nation's welfare.
