DAVV Unveils Plans for State-of-the-Art Research Centre in Indore
In a significant move to enhance academic capabilities, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore is set to establish an advanced research centre on its Takshashila campus at Khandwa Road. This new facility, named the Centre for Excellence in Research, will replace the IT centre that was severely damaged in a fire incident several years ago, marking a revival of a previously underutilised section of the campus.
Modern Infrastructure and Equipment Investment
The Centre for Excellence in Research is poised to become one of the university's most modern academic spaces. It will be equipped with advanced research instruments valued at approximately Rs 12 crore, aimed at strengthening laboratory-based studies and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. These instruments will be procured using a substantial grant of Rs 23 crore received by the university, enabling various departments to access upgraded infrastructure that aligns with contemporary research needs.
Access and Departmental Involvement
Students, faculty members, and PhD scholars from nearly ten departments will have the opportunity to utilise this facility. The participating departments include the School of Biotechnology, School of Computer Science, Life Sciences, Instrumentation, Biochemistry, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy, and the School of Energy, among others. Access will be prioritised for selected researchers, particularly senior faculty and doctoral scholars who are actively engaged in ongoing projects, ensuring optimal resource utilisation.
Timeline and Leadership Insights
University officials have indicated that the centre is likely to be completed by the end of next month. DAVV Vice-Chancellor Rakesh Singhai emphasised that equipment procurement will be based on specific requirements submitted by the departments, a strategy designed to ensure efficient use of resources and address the unique needs of each academic discipline.
Expected Impact and Future Expansion
This initiative is expected to significantly improve research output and provide a common platform for collaboration across various disciplines. By revitalising the fire-damaged area, DAVV aims to create a hub for innovation and academic excellence. In addition to this development, the university is planning further infrastructure expansion on the Takshashila campus. A multi-storey academic building, estimated to cost Rs 8 crore, is scheduled to begin construction later this year. The proposed structure will feature modern facilities, including four to five smart classrooms on each floor, and will function as a comprehensive lecture hall complex.
