Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli is gearing up for a significant academic milestone, having rescheduled its 40th convocation ceremony to the second or third week of December. The event, initially planned for November, will now see Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi presiding as the chief guest.
Preparations and Committee in Full Swing
A dedicated 59-member convocation committee has been formed to ensure the smooth execution of the ceremony. This committee, announced on November 28, comprises 31 teaching staff members and 28 non-teaching staff members. The group recently held a crucial meeting with the committee convenor and Vice-Chancellor, E Sundaravalli, to finalise plans.
University sources have confirmed that the committee members have been assigned specific duties covering all critical aspects of the event. These responsibilities include managing protocol for receiving dignitaries, overseeing food and accommodation arrangements, coordinating travel logistics, and preparing the convocation hall.
Governor's Consent and Degree Recipients
Official sources from Lok Bhavan have confirmed that Governor R N Ravi has given his consent to preside over the convocation. The exact date is being finalised for the chosen week in mid-December.
The ceremony will be a momentous occasion for more than 700 students and PhD candidates. These scholars are those who successfully completed their examinations in the November 2024 and April 2025 academic terms. In a notable highlight, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, who recently earned his doctoral degree, is among the distinguished individuals listed to receive his PhD during the convocation.
A Rescheduled Celebration of Academic Excellence
The shift from the original November schedule to December underscores the university's commitment to organising a well-planned and dignified event. The 40th convocation marks four decades of the university conferring degrees and celebrates the hard work of its latest cohort of graduates.
With the governor's participation and a large batch of graduates, including a serving state minister, the upcoming convocation is poised to be a prominent event in Trichy's academic calendar, honouring the pursuit of knowledge and scholarly achievement.
