The annual convocation ceremony for the constituent colleges of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) was a significant event held at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot. Presiding over the function as Chancellor was Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria.
Degrees and Medals Awarded to Meritorious Students
The university conferred degrees upon a total of 139 graduates from all its constituent colleges. Recognising academic excellence, the ceremony also saw the distribution of 10 Gold Medals and 11 Silver Medals to outstanding performers.
In his address, Governor Kataria commended BFUHS for its proactive initiatives. He specifically praised the university's efforts in health skilling, building partnerships with industry leaders, and reshaping healthcare education to be more employment-focused and responsive to societal needs.
University's Expansion and Modernisation Drive
Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeev Sood detailed the institution's remarkable growth from 2023 to 2025. Key achievements highlighted included:
- The doubling of MBBS seats at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College (GGSMC), Faridkot.
- Establishment of new specialty and super-specialty departments.
- Significant upgrades to digital and library infrastructure.
- The launch of new academic programmes and the revival of PhD programmes.
Emphasis on Compassion and Lifelong Learning
Dr. Gurpreet Singh Wander, Chairman of the BFUHS Board of Management, addressed the graduating class with crucial advice for their medical careers. He stressed the indispensable value of lifelong learning and the practice of compassion-based medicine. Dr. Wander emphasised that while adapting to the rapid evolution of medical science and technology is essential, healthcare professionals must never lose sight of the core principle of humanity in their service.
The convocation was graced by the presence of notable dignitaries, including Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Faridkot MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon, underscoring the event's importance to the region.
