Andhra University Prepares for Grand 91st and 92nd Combined Convocation Ceremony
Visakhapatnam: Andhra University is gearing up for a significant academic milestone as it announces the scheduling of its combined 91st and 92nd convocation ceremony. The prestigious event is confirmed to take place on March 25, marking a major celebration for the university community, alumni, and distinguished guests.
High-Profile Attendees and Chief Guest Honored
The convocation will be graced by the presence of Governor Dr S Abdul Nazeer, who serves as the chancellor of Andhra University. Adding to the event's prominence, Education Minister Nara Lokesh will also participate, underscoring the government's support for higher education initiatives.
Vice-Chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar revealed that the chief guest for the ceremony will be Dr Poornachandra Rao Saggurti, the Vice-Chairman of Bank of America and a distinguished alumnus of Andhra University. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, the university will confer an honorary doctorate upon Dr Saggurti during the proceedings.
Awards and Recognitions to Be Bestowed
The convocation is not just a ceremonial affair but a platform to honor excellence across various academic domains. Alongside Dr Saggurti, Dr Tallavajhula Patanjali Sastri, a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award, will be awarded a doctorate in recognition of his distinguished contributions to literature.
The event will feature the presentation of numerous awards, including:
- Best researcher awards to two professors
- 17 research medals and 13 research prizes for PhD scholars
- Conferral of 7 MPhil degrees and 441 PhD degrees
- 174 undergraduate and postgraduate medals, along with 437 prizes, to be awarded to 148 students
Event Details and Additional Academic Programs
Scheduled to commence at 9 am, the convocation will be held at the AU Convention Centre on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. The university has also organized the fourth commemorative lecture in honor of Prof Rokkam Radhakrishna, set for March 23.
This lecture will be delivered by Prof Duvvuru Narasimha Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad and a visiting professor at the Institute for Development Studies, Andhra Pradesh (IDSAP). The chief guest for this lecture will be Prof S Mahendra Dev, Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council.
The press conference announcing these events was attended by key university officials, including AU Rector Prof P King, Registrar Prof K Rambabu, and Academic Dean Prof K Srinivasa Rao, among others, highlighting the collective effort behind organizing these academic celebrations.
