Andhra University Kicks Off Grand Three-Day Cultural Festival for Centenary Milestone
In a vibrant celebration of its 100-year legacy, Andhra University (AU) in Visakhapatnam is set to host a spectacular three-day mega cultural festival, commencing on April 6, Monday. The event marks a significant highlight of the university's ongoing centenary celebrations, drawing participation from students across its campus and affiliated colleges.
High-Profile Guests to Grace the Occasion
Vice-Chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar announced the details at a press conference on Saturday, revealing that Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan will serve as the chief guest for the concluding day on April 8. Kalyan will also distribute prizes to competition winners, adding a prestigious touch to the festivities.
The inauguration on April 6 will be led by State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha as the chief guest, while Vizag MP M Sribharat will attend as the guest of honor on the second day, April 7. This lineup underscores the event's importance in the region's cultural and academic calendar.
Venue and Scale of the Festivities
The cultural fest will be organized on a massive scale at the AU Engineering College grounds, providing a spacious and dynamic setting for the diverse activities planned. Prof Rajasekhar emphasized that the event aims to showcase the talent and unity of the university community, with extensive involvement from students.
Detailed Schedule of Events
According to Cultural Fest Chairman Prof N Vijay Mohan, the festivities will kick off with a cycling event from the AU Convention Centre to Rushikonda on April 6. The evening will feature:
- Live band performances on the main stage at the engineering college grounds.
- Cultural displays including Thappeta Gullu and yoga demonstrations.
- Performances by the 'AU United' student group and dances by international students.
- A musical night to cap off the day.
On April 7, the engineering college will host:
- Rangoli competitions and salad decoration contests.
- An 'ethnic day' photo booth event for students to celebrate cultural diversity.
- Evening cultural programmes by students, a musical concert by renowned singer Vagdevi, and cultural dances by foreign students.
The final day, April 8, will begin with a walkathon, followed by evening highlights such as:
- Live band performances and cultural shows by AU students.
- Traditional dances including Dhimsa dance, Kolatam, and Puli Vesham.
