The Fertilizernagar campus of GSFC University was brimming with pride and accomplishment on Thursday as it hosted its seventh annual convocation ceremony. A total of 632 students formally received their degrees, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.
Missile Woman of India Inspires Graduates
The event was graced by the eminent chief guest, Dr. Tessy Thomas, renowned as the 'Missile Woman of India' for her pioneering work as the former director general of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). In her convocation address, Dr. Thomas, who now serves as the vice-chancellor of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, delivered a powerful message. She specifically encouraged the graduating women to chase their dreams without fear. Linking the energy of youth to national development, she urged all students to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 while staying true to their core values.
Celebrating Academic Excellence and Diversity
The graduating cohort comprised students from diverse disciplines including technology, science, management studies, and liberal arts. The university reported that the group included 377 male and 255 female graduates. A standout feature of the ceremony was the remarkable performance of women students in the awards segment. They demonstrated academic supremacy by winning the majority of medals, securing 10 out of 14 gold medals and 8 out of 11 silver medals. Dr. Thomas had the honour of presenting these gold medals to the high achievers.
Leaders Emphasize Values and Lifelong Learning
The academic degrees were conferred by P K Taneja, a former IAS officer and the president of GSFC University. In his remarks, Taneja highlighted the profound responsibility that comes with educational success. He advised the new graduates to consistently uphold principles of ethics and discipline. Emphasizing that learning is a continuous journey, he called upon them to be lifelong learners and to use their knowledge for the positive betterment of society.
The convocation served as a formal send-off, equipping the graduates not just with degrees, but with inspiration and a sense of duty as they step into the next chapter of their lives.
