A family from Aluva in Kochi is making desperate appeals to the authorities for assistance in bringing their young daughter back to India from Georgia, where she is fighting for her life in a hospital. The 22-year-old student, Sona Roy, is reportedly in a critical condition, on ventilator support after falling into a coma.
A Medical Crisis Unfolds in a Foreign Land
Sona Roy, the daughter of Roy and Gigi, had travelled to Georgia three-and-a-half years ago to pursue her dream of studying medicine. Her ordeal began approximately two weeks ago when she developed a fever and experienced bleeding. Shockingly, despite her symptoms, the earliest doctor's appointment she could secure was scheduled for two weeks later.
As her health rapidly declined, Sona was forced to seek treatment at a different hospital. Tragically, her condition deteriorated soon after admission, leading to her falling into a coma. The last communication her parents, based in Aluva, received from her friends a few days ago confirmed that she is on ventilator support.
Family's Race Against Time for an Emergency Visa
Devastated by the news, Sona's parents are now in a frantic race against time. They are currently trying to secure an emergency visa to travel to Georgia to be by their daughter's side and make arrangements to bring her back home to India for further care and treatment.
Speaking to the media, the family shared harrowing details. Sona's mother revealed that her daughter was conscious and speaking normally until she was administered anaesthesia at the hospital. Before that critical moment, Sona had collapsed in the hospital bathroom, marking the beginning of her rapid decline.
An Appeal for Swift Government Intervention
The situation highlights the vulnerabilities faced by Indian students abroad during medical emergencies. The family's primary plea is for swift intervention from Indian authorities to facilitate the necessary paperwork, medical coordination, and logistical support required for Sona's medical repatriation.
With every passing hour being critical, the community and authorities are being urged to act quickly to help reunite the family and bring Sona Roy back to Kerala for the care and support she desperately needs.
