Major University Delegation to Visit India in February
Universities Canada, the national organization representing Canadian universities, is set to lead a significant delegation of 21 university presidents to India from February 2 to 6. The delegation's itinerary includes high-level meetings across key locations such as Goa, New Delhi, and the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City, widely known as GIFT City. During this five-day mission, the university leaders are expected to engage intensively with counterparts from higher education, government, and industry sectors to identify and establish new areas of cooperation.

Christopher Cooter, the High Commissioner of Canada to India, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the visit by Canadian university presidents represents "a big step in our renewed collaboration on research and education initiatives." He further noted that this effort is guided by the New Roadmap for Canada–India relations, highlighting a strategic diplomatic framework.

This university delegation's visit is strategically timed ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's anticipated trip to India in mid-February, reflecting renewed momentum in bilateral ties between the two nations. The diplomatic context is further enriched by Canada's recent announcement to launch negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India, signaling a broader commitment to economic and academic integration.
