WBJEE 2025 Exam Scheduled for May 24 with Enhanced Security Protocols

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has officially announced that the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for 2025 will be held on May 24. This declaration was made on Monday as part of the release of this year's comprehensive exam schedule. In a significant move to bolster integrity, the board will introduce biometric attendance for all candidates, marking the first time such a system has been implemented for this examination.

Strengthening Security Measures

To ensure transparency and prevent malpractices, the WBJEEB has decided to enhance security across all examination halls. Biometric attendance will be mandatory for candidates, coupled with increased frisking procedures before entry. Goutam Paul, the chairperson of WBJEEB, emphasized the board's commitment, stating, "We want to strengthen the security system across exam halls to maintain the credibility of the examination process." These measures aim to address concerns over exam integrity and provide a fair testing environment.

Exam Delay and Admission Timeline

This year's examination has been delayed by a month compared to previous years, primarily due to the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal. Historically, the WBJEE was conducted in April: on April 27 in 2024, April 28 in 2023, and April 30 in 2022. Despite this shift, board officials assure that the delay will not impact the overall admission process. They clarified, "Result publication will not be affected because, in previous years, we had to wait for the seat matrix before starting counselling. The timeline has been adjusted accordingly to ensure smooth proceedings."

Application Process and Exam Schedule

Prospective candidates can begin their online applications starting Tuesday, with the submission window remaining open until April 5. The examination will be conducted in two sessions on May 24: Mathematics from 11 am to 1 pm, followed by Physics and Chemistry from 2 pm to 4 pm. This structured schedule allows for adequate breaks and efficient administration.

Context and Future Implications

The introduction of biometric attendance reflects a broader trend in Indian competitive examinations towards leveraging technology for enhanced security. By implementing these measures, the WBJEEB aims to set a precedent for other state-level entrance tests, ensuring that the evaluation process remains robust and trustworthy. Candidates are advised to stay updated with official announcements and prepare accordingly for the revised dates and new security protocols.
