Uttar Pradesh's School Chalo Abhiyan Aims to Reintegrate 1.5 Lakh Dropout Children into Education System
In a significant move to bolster educational inclusion, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially launched the School Chalo Abhiyan, commencing on April 1. This initiative mandates all basic education officials to actively work towards integrating 'dropout' children back into the educational mainstream, with a particular focus on marginalized and vulnerable groups.
Addressing the Dropout Crisis Through Technology
According to official data, approximately 1.5 lakh children are currently listed in the U-DISE 'dropbox,' a system designed to manage students who have either left school or whose educational status remains unknown. To tackle this issue, the Basic Education Department has developed a specialized module within the Sharda app. This innovative tool will display a comprehensive list of dropout children, enabling officials to identify and facilitate their enrollment in schools efficiently.
Director General of School Education (DGSE) Monika Rani has issued directives to all Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) to prioritize children from disadvantaged sections, including girls, those with special needs, and individuals from specific geographical regions and communities who are currently out of school. Rani emphasized that the School Chalo Abhiyan has historically achieved remarkable success in raising public awareness about education, and this new technological approach aims to build on that foundation.
Ensuring Comprehensive Enrollment and Tracking
With the implementation of the new module, the process will not only involve identifying dropout children but also ensuring that their enrollment details are accurately registered through the application interface. Rani instructed officials to update the status of each child via the Sharda app if they are already enrolled in a school. In cases where a child has passed out of one school and enrolled in another, BSAs are required to update the U-DISE code of the respective school to maintain accurate records.
"This systematic approach will help ensure that no child is left out of school," Rani stated, highlighting the campaign's commitment to universal education access. The initiative is structured in two phases: the first phase runs from April 1 to April 15, and the second phase is scheduled from July 1 to July 15, allowing for sustained efforts throughout the academic year.
Broader Implications and Future Goals
The School Chalo Abhiyan represents a critical step in addressing educational disparities in Uttar Pradesh, aligning with national efforts to reduce dropout rates and improve literacy. By leveraging digital tools like the Sharda app, the government aims to create a more transparent and accountable system for tracking student enrollment and attendance. This campaign underscores the state's dedication to fostering an inclusive educational environment where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to learn and thrive.
As officials mobilize across the state, the focus remains on collaborative action between education departments, local communities, and technology platforms to achieve the goal of zero dropout children. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for other regions grappling with similar challenges in education access and retention.
