The Uttar Pradesh government has taken decisive steps to address the acute shortage of subject-expert teachers in the state's secondary schools by recruiting over 33,000 educators, bringing renewed momentum to the education sector. According to data shared by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Services Selection Board, from April 2017 to 2022, recruitment was carried out for 783 posts of principals, 5,321 posts of lecturers, and 27,297 posts of trained graduate teachers (TGTs). In total, recruitment on 33,401 posts has provided new support to the secondary education system.
Impact on Education Quality
For years, stalled recruitment processes have severely impacted students' learning and overall education quality, said a government spokesperson. The government has included teacher recruitment as a cornerstone of its broader education reform agenda, clearing long-pending selection processes and providing employment opportunities to thousands of youth.
Strengthening the Teaching System
The appointment of TGTs, lecturers, and principals has significantly strengthened the teaching system, officials said. School leaders now provide improved academic leadership, enhancing both administrative efficiency and the learning environment. These efforts complement other transformative initiatives such as Operation Alankar, smart classrooms, ICT labs, science and computer laboratories, digital education tools, and a cheating-free examination system.
The recruitment drive is expected to improve student outcomes and reduce the teacher-student ratio in secondary schools across the state. The government remains committed to further reforms to ensure quality education for all.
