The school education department in Telangana has announced a revised reopening date for schools across the state. Instead of the previously scheduled June 12, schools will now reopen on June 15. This decision was made after receiving representations from various stakeholders, and officials noted that June 13 and 14 fall on the second Saturday and Sunday, making the postponement more practical.
Compensating for Lost Days
To compensate for the three lost working days, July 11, which is normally observed as a second Saturday holiday, will be a regular working day for all government and private schools.
Revised Order Issued
Dr. E Naveen Nicolas, Director of School Education, issued the revised order on Sunday. He directed all heads of departments, regional joint directors, and district education officers to communicate the changes to schools under their jurisdiction.
Academic Calendar 2026-27
Along with the postponement, the government has released the academic calendar for the 2026-27 academic year. According to the schedule, the last working day will be April 23, 2027, with a total of 227 working days. Summer vacation will begin on April 24 and continue until June 13, 2027.
Assessment Schedule
As per the calendar, the first Formative Assessment must be completed by July 31, while the second is scheduled by September 21. The first Summative Assessment will be conducted from October 1 to 9, followed by Dussehra holidays from October 10 to 22. The third Formative Assessment must be completed by December 10. Sankranti holidays will be observed from January 13 to 17, 2027.
Class 10 and Other Classes
For Class 10 students, the syllabus must be completed by January 10, 2027. Pre-final examinations are to be conducted before February 28, followed by the SSC Board Examinations in March. For Classes 1 to 9, the syllabus must be completed by February 28, with the second Summative Assessment scheduled from April 9 to 19, 2027.
Remedial Classes
Additionally, remedial classes for students in Classes 1 to 9 will be conducted daily during the post-lunch session until the end of September.
