Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation (TNTESC) has initiated the sale of newly launched textbooks for Classes I to III across all 22 regional godowns in the state. Simultaneously, the free distribution of these books to government schools has been accelerated, officials confirmed on Monday.
Distribution Details for Classes I-III
All term one textbooks for these classes are now available at the godowns. The distribution process has already begun for government and aided schools, according to a TNTESC official. Private schools can place purchase orders online and submit a delivery challan to the respective regional godown for procurement.
Overall Textbook Printing and Distribution
This year, the School Education Department has printed 3.72 crore books for Classes IV to XII, all of which have been dispatched to government, aided, and private matriculation schools across the state. For Classes I to III, developed in alignment with the state education policy, printing of 38.65 lakh books was completed last week, with distribution gaining momentum.
Progress as of May 23
Data from TNTESC reveals that as of May 23, out of 12.8 lakh books for Class I, 10.9 lakh have been distributed; for Class II, 8.9 lakh out of 12.79 lakh; and for Class III, 10.44 lakh out of 13.01 lakh. Overall, 79% of the books have been distributed. School Education Director S Kannappan stated, “The distribution will be completed this week, regardless of any postponement of school reopening. For higher secondary students, all textbooks (including terms one, two, and three) have already been distributed. For lower classes, term one books are delivered first. All students will receive their books on the first day of school.”
This ensures that students across Tamil Nadu will have access to their textbooks promptly, facilitating a smooth start to the academic year.
