Clash Between Student Groups Creates Tension at Andhra University Campus
Visakhapatnam: A tense atmosphere prevailed on the Andhra University campus on Wednesday following a violent clash between two opposing student groups. The incident has sparked heated debates and raised concerns about campus safety and political activities within the university premises.
Allegations and Counter-Allegations Fly
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged protests early in the morning, alleging that students affiliated with the All India Students Federation (AISF) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) had physically attacked Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sevaks. According to ABVP, this attack occurred during an evening shakha session held on Tuesday, disrupting the peaceful gathering.
Simultaneously, AISF and SFI students arrived at the university to submit an official representation to the administration. They countered the ABVP claims, asserting that they were, in fact, the victims of an assault by the RSS-backed group. This confrontation led to heated arguments and a volatile situation on campus, with both sides refusing to back down.
Student Leaders Voice Their Concerns
U Nagaraju, the AISF Visakhapatnam district general secretary, highlighted that a petition had been previously submitted to the vice-chancellor regarding recent campus activities. "These activities allegedly incite religious hatred and violate university regulations," Nagaraju stated. He further accused outsiders associated with the RSS of infiltrating the university, using it as a platform for their agendas, and disrupting the peaceful academic environment.
"When some students opposed these actions, they were attacked. We demand that the university administration take immediate and appropriate action to address this issue and ensure the safety of all students," Nagaraju demanded emphatically.
Political Figures Weigh In
Meanwhile, PVN Madhav, the president of the Andhra Pradesh BJP unit, alleged that communist groups were responsible for attacking the RSS shakha at Andhra University. "The groups suddenly attacked the swayamsevaks while the evening shakha was in progress. This is a blatant act of violence against a nationalist organization," Madhav asserted.
He called for swift justice, demanding the immediate arrest of everyone involved in the incident. "RSS is a nationalist organisation, and attacking its members amounts to the height of lawlessness. We urge the authorities to take strict action to prevent such occurrences in the future," Madhav added, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations.
