Rajkot Student Nimay Purohit Secures Perfect Score in JEE-Main 2024
In a remarkable academic achievement, Nimay Purohit from Rajkot has emerged as the sole candidate from Gujarat to secure a perfect 100 percentile in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Main 2024. This prestigious result places Gujarat firmly on the national merit map for engineering admissions this year.
National Recognition Among Top Performers
Purohit is one of only 26 students across India who achieved the coveted 100 percentile score in the highly competitive examination. The results, announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday, revealed that a total of 15.38 lakh candidates appeared across both sessions of the exam.
While Chandigarh's Aarush Singhal clinched the top rank nationally, the distribution of perfect scores highlights interesting regional trends:
- Andhra Pradesh led with five top-scorers
- Rajasthan and Telangana followed with four perfect scorers each
- Gujarat's representation through Nimay Purohit demonstrates the state's growing academic excellence
Increasing Competition and Higher Cut-Offs
The JEE-Main results signal an increasingly competitive environment for engineering aspirants, particularly in cities like Ahmedabad and Rajkot. NTA data indicates significant tightening of qualifying thresholds, with the general category cut-off rising to 93.41 percentile this year.
Educational experts anticipate that overall admission cut-offs will increase by approximately 2% due to the high volume of candidates and improved performance levels nationwide. This trend underscores the growing pressure on engineering aspirants to excel in these crucial entrance examinations.
Pathway to JEE Advanced and IIT Admissions
Of the students who appeared for the April session — which was offered in 13 languages including Gujarati — the NTA has cleared approximately 2.5 lakh candidates to appear for the JEE Advanced examination. This final test, scheduled for May, serves as the exclusive gateway for admissions to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The registration process for JEE Advanced opens on April 23, giving qualified candidates a narrow window to prepare for the next crucial phase of their engineering admission journey.
State-Specific Admission Procedures
While national counselling for engineering admissions begins in June, Gujarat's technical colleges will continue to utilize the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) for state-specific placements. This dual system ensures that students like Nimay Purohit have multiple pathways to pursue their engineering dreams while maintaining Gujarat's distinct educational framework.
The achievement of a perfect score by a Gujarat student in such a competitive national examination represents a significant milestone for the state's education system and serves as inspiration for future engineering aspirants across the region.
