The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced a significant three-day educational initiative to honour the supreme sacrifice and valour of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, known as the Sahibzadas. The programme aims to deeply ingrain the rich Sikh history and values of courage in the minds of students across the state.
State-Wide Observance in All Schools
Punjab's Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, declared that all government, private, and aided schools in Punjab will observe this special programme from December 22 to December 24. The core activity will be a 15-minute dedicated session during the daily morning assembly on each of these three days. This session will focus on the life, bravery, and martyrdom of Baba Ajit Singh, Baba Jujhar Singh, Baba Zorawar Singh, and Baba Fateh Singh.
Ensuring Historical Accuracy and Reverence
Minister Bains has given clear instructions to ensure the educational material used is both authentic and respectful. He directed PSEB officials to have all pedagogical content meticulously prepared and vetted by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). This step is crucial to certify the historical accuracy and maintain the reverence due to the subject matter.
The sessions are designed to take students through a pivotal chapter of Sikh history. They will explore Guru Gobind Singh's departure from Qila Anandgarh Sahib and the consequential events that culminated in the Saka Sirhind, thereby highlighting Punjab's enduring heritage.
Spiritual Discourses and Student Participation
Beyond the classroom sessions, the PSEB headquarters will host daily events to pay homage. From December 22 to 24, there will be spiritual and historical discourses alongside a Kirtan Darbar from 4 pm to 6 pm. Notably, these Kirtan performances will be carried out by school students themselves.
According to Bains, these events are crafted to forge a deep emotional connection between students and Punjab's history. They will underscore the unwavering faith and sacrifices made by Sikh warriors for righteousness.
Emphasising the broader vision, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that true education transcends textbooks to build character. He said this programme is a step to connect future generations to the roots of sacrifice that define the land of Punjab and to instil timeless values of courage and resilience in every student.
