Pilibhit School Horror: Class 7 Students Booked for Allegedly Blinding Classmate with Pen
A shocking case of school violence has emerged from Pilibhit district, where two Class 7 students of a government composite school in Barha village have been booked by police for allegedly forcefully inserting a ballpen into the right eye of their 12-year-old classmate, causing him to lose his eyesight permanently. The incident, which occurred during school hours on March 16, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious questions about student safety.
Mother's Complaint Leads to FIR Registration
The police action followed a formal complaint lodged on Sunday by the injured boy's mother. In her statement, she alleged that her son was attempting to settle a scuffle between the two accused boys, aged 11 and 12 years, when the main accused became irked by his intervention. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly inserted a ballpen into her son's right eye, causing immediate bleeding and severe trauma.
Medical Emergency and Financial Burden
When the injured boy returned home with a bleeding eye, he was first taken to a local ophthalmologist before being shifted to a private eye care center in Moradabad for specialized treatment. There, he underwent ophthalmic surgery and remains under intensive medical care. According to family relatives, the medical procedures have already cost the family approximately Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 lakh, creating significant financial strain.
Police Investigation Underway
Station House Officer Naresh Kumar Tyagi confirmed that an FIR has been registered against both accused students under section 118 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous tools or methods. "Based on her complaint, we have initiated legal proceedings," SHO Tyagi stated. "The matter will be investigated thoroughly before taking any further legal action."
Conflicting Accounts from School Authorities
In a contradictory version of events, the school principal claimed the incident was purely accidental. According to her account, the injured boy along with other classmates was troubling the main accused, who suddenly moved his arm in self-defence, causing the ballpen in his hand to accidentally pierce the boy's eye. The principal also alleged that the accused boy's family had paid Rs 30,000 to the complainant for her son's treatment, but this gesture failed to satisfy the victim's family.
Delay in Police Complaint Explained
When questioned about the delay in approaching police authorities, the complainant mother explained that she had prioritized her son's immediate medical treatment over filing a formal complaint. "My first concern was saving my son's vision and ensuring he received proper medical attention," she stated, highlighting the family's initial focus on healthcare rather than legal proceedings.
This disturbing incident has highlighted critical issues surrounding:
- Student safety in government schools
- Conflict resolution mechanisms among children
- Emergency medical response protocols
- Legal procedures for juvenile offenses
- Financial burdens of medical emergencies
The case continues to develop as police conduct their investigation and medical professionals work to stabilize the injured student's condition. Community members and education authorities are calling for immediate measures to prevent such violent incidents in educational institutions and ensure safer learning environments for all students.
