Pawan Kalyan Calls for Ideological Clarity Among Students at Andhra University Centenary Fest
In a stirring address at the valedictory function of a three-day cultural festival, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan emphasized the importance of selecting an ideology that aligns with dharma, respects Constitutional principles, and expresses gratitude to the nation. The event, part of Andhra University's centenary celebrations in Visakhapatnam, saw Kalyan engaging with students on Wednesday, urging them to critically evaluate their beliefs.
Critical Evaluation of Ideologies
Kalyan, serving as the chief guest, advised students to avoid blind adherence to any ideology. "You may encounter various ideologies, but you must question, test, and evaluate them," he stated. He encouraged the youth to assess whether these ideologies are practical and relevant to contemporary society or merely theoretical constructs. "Do not follow blindly. Instead, develop a vision and examine every belief critically," he added, highlighting the role of universities as nurturing grounds for thoughtful ideologues.
Democratic Engagement and Accountability
Even for those not politically active, Kalyan stressed the necessity of having a voice in democratic processes. "If you disagree with someone or their actions, express it through the democratic process and ensure accountability," he remarked. This call to action underscores his belief in active citizenship and the power of youth in shaping societal norms.
Centenary Celebrations and Institutional Legacy
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. GP Rajasekhar outlined the activities conducted over the past eleven months as part of the institution's centenary celebrations. He expressed pride in the university's heritage, noting that "institutions that consistently nurture generations and contribute to society are rare, and Andhra University stands among them as a symbol of heritage and intellectual legacy of India." Kalyan echoed this sentiment, urging students to extend their aspirations beyond personal success to serving society and strengthening the nation.
National Progress and Self-Reliance
Reflecting on India's global emergence, Kalyan pointed out the country's move towards complete self-reliance and progress. He invoked historical sacrifices, such as those of Bhagat Singh, to illustrate the values of determination and purpose. "Hold on to a strong ideology, act with determination, and move forward with purpose," he advised, linking personal growth to national development.
Overcoming Social Barriers
Kalyan also addressed social issues, advocating for a focus on humanity over caste and community barriers. "While social norms may not be easily removed, we must go beyond barriers of caste and community and focus on humanity, on the wellbeing of the society, and national progress," he said. He emphasized that meaningful change can stem from a single determined mind, quoting the Sanskrit phrase "Yad bhavam, tad bhavati" (your thoughts shape your reality).
Regardless of background or ideology, Kalyan concluded that every individual's duty is to think deeply and contribute meaningfully to the nation. The event also included prize distributions for winners of various competitions and cultural programs, celebrating the vibrant student community at Andhra University.
