Panjab University Enforces Heightened Security for Holi Festivities
In Chandigarh, strict security arrangements were maintained across the Panjab University (PU) campus during Holi celebrations. University authorities collaborated closely with the UT police to ensure a secure environment, with vigilant monitoring at all entry points and along boundary walls.
Comprehensive Security Deployment
Approximately six nakas (checkpoints) were established at strategic locations within the campus. Nearly 40 police personnel were deployed to assist university security staff in regulating movement and maintaining order. Entry and exit were restricted to designated gates during specified hours to control access effectively.
Preventing Unauthorized Entry
Officials reported several attempts by outsiders to enter the campus by scaling boundary walls. In 2-3 instances documented throughout the day, security personnel stationed near vulnerable wall sections intervened promptly, instructing individuals to leave. Videos circulating on social media captured security staff preventing people from climbing over walls and directing them away from the premises.
Security measures were intensified based on lessons from last year's Holi celebrations, when outsiders reportedly managed to enter the campus. Personnel were deployed at identified vulnerable stretches of the boundary wall, supplemented by patrolling teams that monitored the perimeter continuously.
Incident Management and Campus Celebrations
One brief scuffle was reported outside gate No. 2, but officials confirmed the situation was quickly brought under control without any disturbance inside the campus. Vehicles of non-residents attempting to enter were turned back at gates, and checks at naka points ensured thorough monitoring of movements.
Despite these restrictions, students celebrated Holi enthusiastically across the campus. Groups gathered in hostels, lawns, and open areas, engaging in traditional play with colours and water while enjoying music from portable speakers, showcasing a balanced approach to security and festivity.
