Nagpur School Grapples with Teacher Vacancies as State Government Outlines Resolution Process

In a detailed response to queries raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse addressed concerns regarding teacher shortages at the Ambhora Khurd Zilla Parishad school in Kuhi taluka, Nagpur district. The school currently faces one vacant teaching position each in its primary (Classes 1-5) and upper primary (Classes 6-8) sections, sparking questions about educational impact on students.

Legislative Inquiry and Ministerial Clarification

Members of the Legislative Council, including Prasad Lad, Pravin Derekar, Uma Khapre, Chitra Wagh, Niranjan Davkhare, Dr. Parinay Fuke, and Sadashiv Khot, raised specific questions about whether 26 trainees under the Chief Minister Yuva Karyaprasikshan Yojana had been placed at the school and whether students from Classes 1 to 7 were suffering academically due to staffing issues.

Minister Bhuse clarified that the 26 trainees were allocated across all Zilla Parishad schools in Kuhi taluka, not exclusively to the Ambhora Khurd institution. Their eleven-month training term has concluded, and their services have been formally ended as per the program's structure.

Current Staffing Situation and Interim Measures

The school has three sanctioned teaching positions for Classes 1-5, with one currently vacant. Similarly, for Classes 6-8, two positions are sanctioned with one vacancy. To address the immediate gap in the lower section, a volunteer teacher from the Zilla Parishad census has been placed against the vacancy, ensuring continuity of education while permanent solutions are pursued.

"The 2025-26 sanction process is complete, and redistribution through the surplus adjustment mechanism is actively in progress," stated Minister Bhuse, emphasizing the government's systematic approach to resolving staffing challenges.

Path Forward Through Surplus Adjustment

The surplus adjustment mechanism represents the state government's primary strategy for filling teaching vacancies across Maharashtra's educational institutions. This process involves redistributing teaching resources from schools with surplus staff to those with deficits, optimizing human resource allocation within the public education system.

Appointments to both vacant positions at Ambhora Khurd school will be made through this surplus adjustment procedure, which is currently underway. The mechanism aims to ensure that all sanctioned teaching positions are filled appropriately, maintaining educational standards across the state's Zilla Parishad schools.

This development highlights ongoing challenges in rural educational staffing while demonstrating the state government's structured response through established administrative processes designed to balance teacher distribution across Maharashtra's diverse school network.
