580 Kolkata Students Unleash Creativity at Jockey Juniors Colour Splash Contest
Kolkata's Colour Splash: 580 Young Artists Show Talent

Kolkata's young artistic talents recently painted the town with imagination at the highly anticipated Colour Splash sit-and-draw competition. The event, a collaborative effort by Jockey Juniors and Times NIE, saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students across the city.

A Canvas of Young Imagination

Held on November 22 at Birla High School Mukundapur, the contest became a vibrant hub for creativity. Approximately 580 students from more than 100 city schools gathered to put their skills on display. The participants were divided into two categories: the junior group for classes III and IV, and the senior group for classes VI and VII.

Each young artist faced a choice between two captivating themes: 'Around the World in a Day' or 'Travelling Through a Land of Festivals.' This choice encouraged them to explore global cultures and India's rich festive heritage through bold colors and stunning artwork.

Beyond the Drawing Sheet: Workshops and Performances

The event offered more than just a competition. Recognizing the challenges of modern parenting, the organizers conducted a special workshop for the attending parents. The session focused on 'Raising creative minds in a screen-heavy world.'

The resource person, Dr. Sanjay Garg, Head of Psychiatry at Fortis Hospitals, Kolkata, provided practical advice. With exams approaching, he addressed the critical issue of screen addiction. Dr. Garg emphasized that children often emulate their parents' behavior. He suggested strategies like gradually reducing screen time and engaging in creative family activities as effective solutions.

The cultural segment of the day was lit up by a graceful dance performance on 'Vande Mataram' by students from Bidya Bharati Girls High School. The event's energy was maintained by the lively hosting of RJ Vijeta.

Celebrating Excellence and Artistic Merit

The judging panel comprised noted artists Bikas Karmakar, Eleena Banik, and Muktinath Mondal. They had the challenging task of evaluating the flood of creative entries.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by chief guest Major General V N Chaturvedi (Retd), Secretary General of Vidya Mandir Society. He was joined by other dignitaries, including Priyank Shukla, Circle Head-East, General Trade, Jockey India. Together with the judges, they presented the awards.

The winners were rewarded with gift coupons, medals, certificates, and trophies. Major General Chaturvedi praised the event, stating it was a joyful celebration of talent, teamwork, and colorful inspiration that truly lit up the day.

The Times NIE Colour Splash event successfully provided a premier platform for Kolkata's youth to express themselves, fostering a love for art and creative thinking outside the digital realm.
