Teacher Faces Suspension After Alleged Brutal Assault on Student

A shocking incident of alleged violence against a child has emerged from a school in Kerala's Kottayam district. A social science teacher at the MMMUM UP School located in Karakkad, Erattupetta, stands accused of brutally assaulting a Class V student right inside the examination hall on Thursday.

The incident reportedly occurred when the young student asked a question during the exam. The teacher, allegedly irritated by this, is said to have hit the child on the shoulder. The severity of the assault came to light when the student's classmates, hearing cries from the classroom, grew concerned and inquired about the situation.

Fractured Shoulder and Police Investigation

The student returned home in a weakened state, prompting his parents to immediately take him to a hospital for medical attention. An X-ray examination confirmed a fracture on the child's shoulder, with doctors prescribing a mandatory three-week rest period for recovery.

Following a formal complaint lodged by the aggrieved parents, the Erattupetta police have initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter. A police officer from the station stated, "We recorded the student's statement and have started a preliminary inquiry into the incident. A detailed probe is required to confirm whether the fracture occurred due to the assault."

The officer further revealed crucial evidence, noting, "The parents told us that the teacher, over the phone, admitted that he assaulted the student. We will question him soon. Based on the findings, a decision will be taken on registering a case."

School Management Takes Swift Action

In response to the grave allegations, the school management acted promptly. School manager, K A Muhammad Ashraf, condemned the act, stating it was horrific and affirming that the teacher responsible for the cruel act would not be protected for even a moment.

The school management and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) convened an urgent meeting upon learning of the incident. The outcome was the immediate suspension of the accused teacher from service. Manager Ashraf also assured that the school would stand by the student and support him through all ensuing legal proceedings.

The authorities have made it clear that after completing a full and thorough inquiry, stringent action will be taken against the teacher. This action could include dismissal from service, marking a firm stance against such misconduct within the educational institution.
