Decision to Cancel Third SSLC Examination
In light of the improved results, School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced that a third SSLC examination will not be conducted for the 2025-26 academic cycle. This decision marks a departure from the recent three-exam structure, which provided students with multiple opportunities to enhance their scores or clear subjects.
The minister emphasized that the strong pass percentage and broader performance gains justified the move to restrict the cycle to only two examinations. Students who did not qualify in Exam-1 will still have the opportunity to appear for Exam-2 under the existing supplementary framework. The board has committed to issuing detailed schedules and application instructions for the next examination separately.
Statewide Performance Highlights and Implications
The announcement follows substantial gains in statewide results, with the pass percentage among regular fresh students rising by over 14 percentage points compared to the previous year. Analysis by school management type revealed:
- Government schools recorded a pass rate of 93.97%.
- Aided schools achieved 92.44%.
- Unaided schools led with 95.4%.
Grade distribution data also showed improvement, with 66.5% of students scoring 60% and above, up from 50.8% last year. Minister Bangarappa highlighted the rise in boys' pass percentage as a key development during the briefing, noting it as one of the significant improvements in this year's outcomes.
Exam-2 and Future Provisions
While the third examination has been eliminated, Exam-2 remains available as the next opportunity for students with Not Completed results and others eligible under board rules. The board has retained provisions for revaluation, recounting, and obtaining photocopies of answer scripts through online applications and KarnatakaOne.
Fee Structure: A fee exemption has been announced for regular fresh students with Not Completed results in Exam-1 and for candidates appearing for improvement in the third language. Prescribed fees will continue to apply in other categories.
With this decision confirmed, the SSLC 2025-26 cycle will proceed with only two examinations instead of three. The board directly links this change to the stronger results achieved this year, signaling a shift towards a more streamlined assessment process based on enhanced student performance.
