Karnataka Pre-University Exam Results 2026 Show Remarkable Statewide Improvement
The Karnataka Department of Pre-University Education has released the results for the second year Pre-University (PU) examinations, revealing a substantial statewide academic uplift. The overall pass percentage across Karnataka has experienced a significant surge, climbing by 13 percentage points from 73.45% in the 2025 examination to an impressive 86.48% this year.
Top Performing Districts Maintain Excellence
Among the various districts, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have once again secured the leading positions, demonstrating consistent educational excellence. Udupi district achieved a pass percentage of 96.39%, while Dakshina Kannada followed closely with 96.35%.
Maruthi, the Deputy Director of PU Education (DDPU) for Udupi district, explained the district's continued success to media sources. "Our district topped the charts last year, and we were confident about retaining this position," he stated. "We strategically increased the number of review meetings, conducting at least four district-level sessions involving officials and heads of institutions. Additionally, we held thorough review meetings after every term and preparatory examination to ensure continuous monitoring and improvement."
Districts Showing Significant Progress
While some districts lead in overall performance, others have shown extraordinary year-on-year improvement. Vijayapura district registered the most dramatic enhancement, with its pass percentage skyrocketing from 58.81% in 2025 to 92% in 2026. Yadgiri district, despite being among the lower performers, also demonstrated notable progress, improving from 48.45% to 71.21%.
Areas Requiring Further Attention
The results also highlight districts that continue to face challenges. The bottom three performing districts are Yadgiri with a pass rate of 71.21%, Raichur at 74.09%, and Gadag with 76.65%. Kalaburagi follows closely with a pass percentage of 76.97%, indicating these regions need targeted educational interventions.
Bengaluru's Strong Performance
The state capital, Bengaluru, recorded an approximate 90% pass rate among second PU students in this year's examination. The breakdown across its educational districts reveals:
- Bengaluru North: 90.05% pass rate
- Bengaluru Rural: 91% pass rate
- Bengaluru South: 90.55% pass rate
These figures indicate robust educational outcomes across the metropolitan region, contributing significantly to the state's overall improved performance.
The substantial increase in Karnataka's PU exam pass percentage reflects concerted efforts by educational authorities, institutional heads, and students. The implementation of regular review mechanisms, as highlighted by Udupi's DDPU, appears to be a key factor in driving academic success. While celebrating the overall progress, the results also pinpoint specific districts where focused educational strategies could yield further improvements in subsequent years.
