Karnataka Darshan Educational Tour Program Launches for Government School Students

The Karnataka Darshan educational tour program for government schoolchildren was officially launched in the district on Tuesday, following some initial delays. This initiative, organized by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) in collaboration with the education department, aims to provide students with firsthand exposure to the state's rich cultural and historical heritage.

Tour Details and Itinerary

A total of 433 government school students from the district embarked on a four-day educational journey, visiting several significant historical and cultural sites across Karnataka. The tour itinerary included visits to:

  • Chitradurga: Students explored the historic fort and the museum at Murugha Mutt.
  • Halebidu and Beluru: These sites offered insights into ancient architectural marvels.
  • Shravanabelagola Temple: A key pilgrimage center known for its religious significance.
  • Melukote: Another important cultural and religious site.
  • Mysuru: Various places in this historic city were also part of the tour.

To facilitate the tour, 12 NWKRTC buses were arranged, ensuring smooth transportation for the students from four taluks of the district.

Official Statements and Program Objectives

SM Hudedamani, the nodal officer at the DDPI office, explained that the KSTDC organizes this educational tour annually to create awareness among government schoolchildren about historical places, including museums, pilgrimage centers, and architectural sites. He confirmed that the corporation hired 12 NWKRTC buses for the tour, with students from Dharwad Rural and City departing on March 10 and returning safely.

Hudedamani further noted that all 433 students in the district will participate in the tour, with each student receiving a cap, T-shirt, ID card, bag, and notepad as part of the program.

Educational Benefits and Teacher Perspectives

Government school teachers Manjula Jyoti and Tejavathi HD emphasized that the educational tour is designed to promote learning through real-world experiences, showcasing the state's cultural, historical, and ecological diversity. They highlighted that Karnataka boasts a rich heritage, and such tours help students learn about these heritage sites firsthand.

The teachers also pointed out that many rural children may not have the financial means to visit such places on their own, making this government-organized tour particularly valuable in bridging that gap and providing equal educational opportunities.

Student Feedback and Experiences

Students who participated in the tour shared positive feedback about their experiences. Abhishek Agasindi from Govt Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Awashya Vidyalaya in Hubballi and Vedashri U from Govt High School Nekar Nagat in Hubballi expressed their appreciation for the well-organized arrangements.

"All arrangements were good. We got an opportunity to visit the places and learn many things. Tour guides explained about the historic places. We enjoyed the four-day tour. Thanks to the government for organizing a tour program which helps us gain knowledge about the history of the state," they said.

Conclusion

The Karnataka Darshan program represents a significant step in enhancing educational outreach for government school students, fostering a deeper understanding of the state's heritage through immersive travel experiences. By providing access to historical sites and cultural landmarks, the initiative aims to enrich students' learning and inspire a greater appreciation for Karnataka's diverse history.
