The National Testing Agency (NTA) officially released the results for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 on Monday evening, marking a significant milestone for engineering aspirants across India. The announcement revealed outstanding performances from students in Nagpur and throughout Maharashtra, highlighting the state's competitive edge in this prestigious national examination.
Nagpur's Academic Stars Achieve Near-Perfect Scores
From Nagpur, two exceptional students have demonstrated remarkable academic prowess. Madhav Notani and Omisha Jain both achieved an impressive 99.99 percentile in the examination. Notably, Madhav Notani secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 91, placing him among the nation's top performers. Despite multiple attempts to reach them for comments, both students could not be contacted following the results declaration.
Maharashtra Dominates with Perfect Scores and High Percentiles
Maharashtra emerged as a powerhouse in this year's JEE Main, with two students from the state achieving the coveted perfect 100 percentile. Madhav Viradiya and Siddarth Athaley joined an elite group of only 26 candidates nationwide who accomplished this extraordinary feat. Additionally, another Maharashtra candidate, Yash Raut, scored 99.988 percentile, further emphasizing the state's strong representation among top ranks.
The competitive landscape of Maharashtra's candidates this year is particularly noteworthy, with multiple students securing positions in the highest percentiles, showcasing the region's academic excellence and rigorous preparation culture.
JEE Advanced Qualification and Examination Statistics
Alongside the results, the NTA released the final All India Ranks and crucial cut-off scores determining eligibility for JEE (Advanced), the gateway examination for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Approximately 2,50,182 candidates have qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced), which is renowned as one of the world's most challenging entrance examinations.
The selection process for JEE (Advanced) is exceptionally competitive, with the exam ultimately determining admission to roughly 17,000 available IIT seats. For candidates who appeared in both the January and April sessions of JEE Main, their best scores were considered for the final merit list compilation.
The examination witnessed massive participation, with 16,04,854 unique candidates registering for JEE Main 2026 across both sessions. Of these, 15,38,468 candidates actually appeared for the examination. The April session alone saw 11,10,904 registrations and 10,34,330 appearances, reflecting a high attendance rate exceeding 93%.
Cut-off Trends and Security Measures
Preliminary analysis indicates that the cut-off percentile for the General category has experienced a slight increase, settling at approximately 93.11 percentile for this year's examination. This adjustment reflects the competitive nature of the examination and the high performance standards of qualifying candidates.
The examination was conducted under enhanced security protocols to ensure integrity and fairness. The NTA implemented advanced technological measures including:
- AI-based face recognition systems at examination centers
- 5G signal jammers to prevent electronic malpractice
- Approximately 630 observers deployed nationwide to monitor proceedings
As a result of these stringent measures, 113 results have been temporarily withheld due to suspected use of unfair means or biometric discrepancies that require further investigation.
Administrative Coordination and Future Declarations
To facilitate smooth examination conduct, the NTA coordinated closely with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to avoid scheduling conflicts with board examinations. The agency also made special arrangements for candidates affected by disruptions in parts of the Middle East, allowing for rescheduling where necessary.
Transparency mechanisms included an answer key challenge system that allowed candidates to raise concerns about question papers. While JEE Main results have been declared, results for the BArch examination are still pending and will be announced separately by the NTA in due course.
