JEE Main 2026 Results: Record 26 Perfect Scorers, 2.5 Lakh Qualify for Advanced

The results for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 have been announced, revealing a highly competitive landscape with 26 candidates securing a perfect 100 NTA score, an increase from 24 in the previous year. This underscores the intensifying competition at the pinnacle of India's premier engineering entrance test. Simultaneously, a total of 2,50,182 candidates have qualified for JEE (Advanced), the critical gateway to admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

State-Wise Distribution of Top Scorers

Geographically, the perfect scorers list is dominated by a few states, reflecting regional educational strengths. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana lead the tally with five candidates each achieving the 100 percentile. Rajasthan follows closely with four toppers, while Delhi accounts for three. Maharashtra and Haryana each contributed two perfect scorers, and one candidate each hailed from Chandigarh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Gujarat. This pattern indicates a continued concentration of top academic performance in specific regions.

Category and Gender Analysis

In terms of category representation among the perfect scorers, one candidate belongs to the general-EWS category and one to OBC-NCL. Notably, no candidates from SC or ST categories featured in the 100 percentile group, continuing a trend observed in previous years. On the gender front, there is no female candidate with a perfect score this year, marking a shift from 2025 when at least one girl was among the top scorers. The highest-scoring female candidate is Telangana's Mallavarapu Aasna, who achieved a near-perfect 99.998 percentile.

Qualification Breakdown for JEE Advanced

The qualification data for JEE (Advanced) provides a detailed snapshot of candidate distribution across categories. 96,873 candidates from the general category have qualified, followed by 67,597 from OBC, 37,522 from SC, 25,009 from EWS, and 18,790 from ST, summing to the total of 2,50,182. This selection process is extremely competitive, as JEE (Advanced) serves as the sole filter for approximately 17,000 IIT seats, making it one of the toughest entrance exams globally.

Participation and Performance Metrics

Overall participation in JEE Main 2026 was substantial, with 16,04,854 unique candidates registering across both sessions and 15,38,468 appearing, indicating a high engagement rate. In the April session alone, 11,10,904 candidates registered, and 10,34,330 appeared, reflecting an attendance rate of over 93%. Among the standout performers, Pasala Mohith from Andhra Pradesh and Shubham Kumar from Bihar achieved the remarkable feat of scoring 100 percentile in both the January and April sessions.

About JEE Main and Its Significance

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is India's largest engineering entrance test, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in a computer-based format. It serves as the gateway to undergraduate programs in institutions such as the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions. Candidates can appear in one or both sessions annually, with their best score considered for ranking. Scores are reported as NTA percentiles, which normalize performance across multiple shifts to ensure fairness.

This year's results highlight not only the academic excellence of top scorers but also the broader competitive dynamics and regional disparities in India's engineering education landscape.
