Indore Engineering Exam Sees 40% Turnout as 1,520 Candidates Appear for 32 Posts
Indore Engineering Exam: 40% Turnout, 1,520 Candidates for 32 Posts

Indore Engineering Services Exam Witnesses Significant Low Turnout

The State Engineering Services Examination, conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) on Sunday, experienced a notably low turnout with only about 40% attendance. Approximately 1,520 candidates appeared across 10 designated centers in the city of Indore, despite more than 3,800 registrations for the competitive test.

Smooth Conduct Amidst Reduced Participation

The examination was held from 12 noon to 3 pm and proceeded without any major disruptions or technical issues. Officials confirmed that all centers functioned smoothly with adequate arrangements in place to facilitate the candidates. To ensure fairness and transparency throughout the process, the Commission deployed special observers at every examination venue.

The test was conducted using an OMR-based format, which is standard for such competitive examinations. Despite the relatively lower number of candidates appearing, authorities maintained strict vigilance and monitoring to uphold the integrity of the recruitment process.

Key Departments and Vacancy Details

The examination was organized to fill 32 posts across several crucial government departments. These include:

  • Water Resources Department
  • Public Health Engineering Department
  • Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Department

This year's competition level was significantly lower compared to the previous cycle. In the earlier examination, nearly 8,000 candidates had applied for just 23 posts, creating intense competition. This time, the ratio stood at approximately 120 candidates per post, which has considerably eased the pressure on aspirants.

Recruitment Timeline and Possible Post Increase

Officials have indicated that the results are likely to be declared within a month, possibly by April 2024. Following the announcement of results, interviews are scheduled to take place in May and June. This shorter timeline is expected to expedite the overall recruitment process, benefiting both the candidates and the administering departments.

MPPSC OSD R Panchbhai stated that the examination was conducted in a smooth and orderly manner, reflecting the Commission's commitment to efficient public service recruitment.

Additionally, sources suggest that the number of posts may be increased before the final declaration of results. While 32 vacancies have been officially notified, an addition of 20 to 25 posts is currently under consideration. This potential expansion is being evaluated in response to long-standing demands from engineering candidates across the state.

The lower turnout this year raises questions about candidate engagement and the attractiveness of government engineering positions, but officials remain focused on completing the recruitment process efficiently and transparently.
