Two Hyderabad Students Drown in Lake After Holi Celebrations

In a tragic incident in Hyderabad, two Intermediate students lost their lives by drowning in a lake on Tuesday afternoon. The teenagers, identified as Sagar and Abhishek, both 17-year-olds from Vishwakarma Colony in Suraram, were washing themselves in Panthulu Cheruvu lake after celebrating the Holi festival with friends.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The two students, along with three friends, had participated in Holi festivities in their neighbourhood. Following the celebrations, the group proceeded to Panthulu Cheruvu in Vishwakarma Colony around 2:30 PM. According to Suraram inspector S Sudhir Krishna, while washing themselves and playing in the water, Sagar and Abhishek ventured deeper into the lake and tragically drowned.

Immediate Response and Recovery Efforts

Alerted by their friends who witnessed the incident, local residents quickly reached the spot and notified authorities. Police personnel, assisted by the Disaster Response Force (DRF), launched recovery operations. The bodies were successfully retrieved from the lake in the evening and subsequently transported to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Educational Background and Legal Proceedings

Both deceased students were enrolled at Government Junior College in Bahadurpally. The police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning incident.

This unfortunate event serves as a sobering reminder of water safety precautions, particularly during festive occasions when celebratory activities might lead to risky situations near water bodies.
