Gujarat Board Announces Provisional Answer Key for Class 12 Science with Grace Marks
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has taken a proactive step by releasing the provisional answer key for Class 12 Science students, even before the official results are declared. This move comes in response to identified errors in certain question papers, prompting the board to award grace marks to affected students.
Details of Grace Marks Awarded Across Mediums
According to the provisional answer key, students from the Gujarati and English mediums will receive a total of 4 grace marks, while Hindi medium students will be awarded 3 marks. These marks have been specifically granted due to mistakes discovered in the physics and chemistry question papers. Notably, no discrepancies were reported in the mathematics and biology papers, ensuring fairness in those subjects.
Breakdown of Errors in Physics and Chemistry Papers
In chemistry, errors were identified in one question each in the Gujarati- and Hindi-medium papers, leading to one mark being awarded to students of these mediums. For the English-medium paper, two questions were found incorrect, resulting in two grace marks. In physics, Gujarati-medium students will receive three marks, while English- and Hindi-medium students will be awarded two marks each. This detailed allocation aims to compensate for the inaccuracies and maintain academic integrity.
Exam Schedule and Current Evaluation Process
The Class 12 science exams were conducted between February 26 and March 16, covering a rigorous schedule. Following the completion of exams, the evaluation process is currently underway. Meanwhile, the board has published provisional answer keys for all four core subjects—physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology—in Gujarati, English, and Hindi mediums, providing transparency and early access for students.
Procedure for Submitting Objections to Answer Key
The board has also invited objections from students regarding the provisional answer key. Candidates can submit their representations by email until April 4. A fee of Rs 500 per question must be paid while submitting objections, along with proof of payment. If the objection is found valid after expert review, the fee will be refunded, encouraging genuine feedback and corrections.
Next Steps: Final Answer Key and Result Preparation
After reviewing all objections, the board will release the final answer key, which will be used to prepare the results. This process ensures that any remaining issues are addressed before the final scores are calculated, promoting accuracy and fairness in the evaluation system.
