The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has taken a firm stance on maintaining the sanctity of its board examinations by identifying a total of 73 suspicious cases following a meticulous review of CCTV footage from the recently concluded Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. This proactive measure underscores the board's commitment to transparency and fairness in the assessment process.
Urban and Rural Breakdown of Suspicious Incidents
Of the flagged cases, 36 were reported from urban centres, while 37 originated from rural areas, indicating that malpractice concerns span across different geographical settings. The CCTV scrutiny was initiated just one day after the examinations concluded, with footage being examined from four examination centres located in both Ahmedabad city and its surrounding rural regions.
Detailed Findings from Rural Areas
In rural areas, the 37 suspicious cases were further categorized: 18 from Class 10, 18 from Class 12 (General stream), and one from Class 12 Science. Following hearings conducted by the district education officer (DEO) in these regions, six students were found guilty of engaging in unfair practices. Specifically, three students each from Class 10 and Class 12 (General stream) were implicated. Notably, the lone Class 12 Science case was dismissed after the student was exonerated and found innocent during the hearing process.
Urban Centre Investigations and Outcomes
In Ahmedabad city, the scrutiny revealed that all six suspicious cases reported from the Class 12 Science examinations were confirmed as instances of malpractice during the hearings. Additionally, 18 cases from Class 10 and 12 cases from Class 12 (General stream) have been registered in urban centres. Hearings for these cases are still pending, and the board is expected to proceed with them shortly to determine the veracity of the allegations.

The GSHSEB has emphasized that strict disciplinary action will be taken against any students found guilty of malpractice, in strict accordance with the established examination rules and regulations.
