Goa Student Achieves Top Score in JEE Main Session 1 Examination
Tanay Ajit Prabhu, a resident of Ponda in Goa, has emerged as the state's highest scorer in the National Testing Agency's Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) session 1 results, which were officially declared on Monday. He secured an impressive percentile of 99.82, showcasing exceptional academic prowess in this highly competitive engineering entrance test.
Academic Excellence and Future Aspirations
This achievement follows his earlier success in the Class X examination, where he scored 97.5%. Tanay has expressed his ambition to crack the JEE Advanced examination and pursue a career in engineering, specifically focusing on the domain of space science. His dedication to academics is evident from his consistent performance across different educational levels.
He completed his secondary education from GVM’s A J De Almeida High School in Ponda and is currently studying in Class XII at Smt Nelly Joildo Aguiar Higher Secondary School in Farmagudi. His family background includes his father, Ajit Prabhu, who works as an IT professional, and his mother, Nandita, who is a pharmacist, providing a supportive environment for his studies.
Understanding JEE Main Scoring and Rankings
The final rank for candidates in JEE Main will be determined after considering the best scores from both sessions of the JEE (Main)-2026 examination for paper 1. NTA scores are normalised to account for variations across multiple shifts, based on the relative performance of all examinees in each shift. These marks are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0, ensuring a fair evaluation process for all participants.
National Participation and Examination Details
JEE Main session 1 witnessed massive participation across India, with approximately 13.6 lakh students attempting the paper. This included around 4.5 lakh girls and 8.6 lakh boys, highlighting the widespread interest in engineering education. The examination was conducted last month as a computer-based test, held across 658 centres in 326 cities nationwide, demonstrating the extensive logistical efforts involved in administering such a large-scale assessment.
