Fire Erupts at Anandpur College in Keonjhar, Causing Significant Damage
A sudden fire broke out at Anandpur College in Keonjhar on Wednesday, sparking widespread panic across the campus. The blaze, which occurred at the Plus 3 Student Academic Management System (SAMS) centre located near the boys' and girls' common rooms, led to the destruction of several critical items before fire personnel managed to bring it under control. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, but the damage to equipment and records has raised serious concerns.
Extensive Damage to Equipment and Documents
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire destroyed more than 10 computers, along with numerous air conditioners and other electronic devices. Additionally, important student records, including admission and scholarship registers, were severely damaged. College principal Narayan Mishra confirmed that Odisha State Open University examination papers also suffered partial harm during the firefighting efforts. The loss of these documents could potentially disrupt administrative processes and academic activities at the institution.
Suspected Cause and Immediate Response
While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, authorities suspect a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. Fire personnel from Anandpur rushed to the scene promptly after being alerted and worked swiftly to douse the flames, preventing further spread and minimizing additional damage. Their quick action was crucial in averting a more catastrophic outcome, especially given the proximity to student common areas.
College Administration Launches Internal Inquiry
In response to the incident, the college administration has initiated an internal inquiry to determine the full extent of the damage and identify any lapses in safety protocols. This step aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future and ensure the campus remains secure for students and staff. The inquiry will also assess the need for enhanced fire safety measures and equipment maintenance across the college facilities.
The fire at Anandpur College serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust safety systems in educational institutions. As the investigation progresses, the college community is focused on recovery and implementing measures to safeguard against such emergencies.
