Delhi University Fest Chaos: DDUC Students' Union Alleges Security Mismanagement

The Students’ Union of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) at Delhi University has leveled serious allegations of mismanagement against security personnel deployed at the entry gates of the annual fest Kalrav'26. The controversy erupted ahead of singer Mohit Chauhan's highly anticipated performance on Friday, February 27th, 2026.

Gate Chaos and Police Intervention

Videos circulating widely on social media platforms captured significant ruckus at the festival entry points. A massive crowd of students had formed lengthy queues, attempting to enter using QR codes provided during registration. According to student union representatives, the gates were closed earlier than scheduled, creating confusion and frustration among attendees.

Security personnel and college staff worked actively to control the swelling crowd, but the situation escalated when police were observed using batons to manage the gathering. The disturbance occurred around 2 p.m., well before Mohit Chauhan's scheduled performance.

Despite the external chaos, the musical event proceeded smoothly inside the college grounds later that evening. The celebrated singer himself shared multiple videos from his performance on his social media handles, confirming the successful completion of his set which continued into late Friday night.

Principal's Statement on Peaceful Completion

Professor Hem Chand Jain, Principal of DDUC, confirmed the event's peaceful conclusion while acknowledging the challenging circumstances. In his official statement released on Saturday, he revealed that approximately 60,000 students attended the festival, significantly exceeding the college ground's maximum capacity of 10,000.

"I sincerely place on record my gratitude to all those who made this a successful mega show," Principal Jain stated. "Special thanks to the police for ensuring smooth, peaceful and successful completion of the program. Few students who did not have valid entry QR codes attempted forceful entry. Security staff made every possible effort to convince them, but unfortunately they created nuisance and ruckus. Thereafter, police took appropriate actions to maintain law and order in this large gathering situation."

The principal emphasized that police intervention helped prevent potential harm to students, noting that the situation inside the college remained peaceful throughout the performances.

Student Union's Formal Complaint

In a contrasting perspective, the DDUC Students' Union submitted a formal letter to police authorities on Saturday, which was subsequently shared online. The document directly criticizes what they describe as administrative failure in crowd management.

The union's statement reads: "The police administration failed to properly manage the crowd at the entry gates. Despite informing authorities 15 days prior to the event and requesting adequate arrangements, police were unsuccessful in handling the situation. Due to this mismanagement, chaos occurred, which has deeply hurt and angered the student community."

Kalrav'26 was scheduled from February 26th to 28th, with Mohit Chauhan's performance on the second day serving as the festival's highlight. Entry was permitted to all Delhi University students with valid identification and students from other colleges with proper QR codes.

As of now, Delhi Police has not issued any official comment regarding the incident or the allegations made by the student union. The contrasting narratives between college administration and student representatives highlight ongoing concerns about event management and security protocols during large-scale university festivals.
