He was pursuing a second-year diploma in mechanical engineering at a private polytechnic college located near Nallampalli. According to police reports, Surya and his friends visited a farm well at Devarsampatty after college hours on Monday. What began as a routine bathing excursion quickly turned into a nightmare when Surya jumped into the well from the upper edge. Alarmingly, he failed to resurface for an extended period, prompting his friends to raise an immediate alert.
Intensive Rescue Operations Spanning Nearly 10 Hours
Personnel from the Dharmapuri fire and rescue services, along with local police, rushed to the scene upon receiving the distress call. The rescue teams faced significant challenges due to the well's high water level. More than five electric motors were deployed to pump out water and facilitate the search operation.
A police officer from Adhiyamaankottai police station detailed the arduous efforts: "The well contained substantial water, requiring extensive pumping before we could continue our search. Our teams worked tirelessly under difficult conditions."
Body Recovered After Prolonged Efforts
The grim discovery came around 12:30 AM on Tuesday, following nearly ten hours of continuous rescue operations. Surya's body was subsequently sent to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
